Eyes Wide Shut

2 min read

Yes, of course I know. I have known for a long time, it is the silence, the lack of questions and argument.

I have written and talked for years about God's power and control. Yet you hold on to your safe view that God offers truth to everyone and it's up to them to accept it.

I have quoted scriptures teaching clear predestination, to passages telling of men God out and out rejected. I have written and talked about how Judas was doomed from the beginning and how if Jesus loved Him the same as Peter, He would have given Him a greater warning. He never did, and He never said Judas would come back.

Crickets.

Have you considered how a man is born blind because God wanted to use Him for a miraculous event? God hid the world from this man's eyes for all his life until that day. God did this, regardless of how fair YOU think it is.

Do you still trust Him?

Or do you act like the Pharisees, want to somehow blame the man or his parents?

How about the light of truth for salvation? Don't you even say, "God must open their eyes"? Yet, you still blame them?

Couldn't Jesus appear to each man? Could He not smack them physically upside their head and say "I AM HE DUDE!"?

Yes, yes, He could. Ah, but it is still somehow up to them?

You do know He descended onto a mountain in fire and most still didn't believe! A calf idol?

If I were thinking the same, I would accuse you of stubbornness... of being stiff-necked.

But I know better. We see what God opens our eyes to see, nothing more, nothing less.

Do you still trust Him?

Chosen doesn't mean you get to see everything. It means you were picked out of many who were in the fire and set apart... made holy.

You got saved. Still, there is a big difference between Paul and some random guy who got saved on that same day. Was Paul better? No, but He did get to see more. He got to do more.

There is nothing wrong with being a random guy for God. Especially if the eyes get to see wonderful truth about Him.

You must realize that it is not the doers that will sit closer to Him for eternity. It is the seekers, the ones God gave a large measure of faith, a larger number of talents. The ones who dug in and got to see God more intimately. Their God given measure grew because God opened the eyes of their hearts.

The work they did next is simply the natural response to His beauty.

"Open our eyes, Lord! I want to see you!"
