Like Father, Like Son

Job 1:6-7

[6] One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them.

[7] The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."

Consider, satan here in the book of Job. Obviously, he has an animosity against God, God's power, God's control. Yet, he doesn't really know God at all...

I get a kick out of verse 7. God asks satan "where have you come from?"

Didn't God know? Even if you only believe God foreknew the future, you would have to agree that satan's response would have been "why are you asking? You already know!"

Yet he doesn't.

This is telling. Telling a whole lot.

Satan doesn't know. He doesn't know or trust God's power, knowledge, or control. He doesn't know God... even though he has seen God (for thousands of years) move, create and act.

You do realize what a big deal this is.

Why?

Why doesn't he know?

On one hand, He doesn't want to. He is comfortable with his limited perspective. On the other hand, he was made to do exactly as he does.

Isaiah 45:7

[7] I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things.

Romans 13:1

[1] Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

John 12:31

[31] Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.

John 14:30

[30] I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me,

Satan was created and established as prince of this world... intentionally, at the very least, having known what he would do long before he was made.

Yes, intentionally.

Satan doesn't know. He can't see it. He doesn't believe God is good. He doesn't believe God is in control. He doesn't have any idea how lost he really is.

Neither do his children.

Job 1:8

[8] Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."

So, for those who don't believe God is in control... if God didn't bring up Job as a boast, would satan have had any reason to try to make Him fail?

Looks like intent to me...
