Responding to Responsibility
God is not expecting you to do anything. This struggle with "what can I do?" or "what should I do?" is not necessary. The Father is a good dad. If, and when, He wants you to do something, you will know.
He is God. It is His responsibility to get your attention, to communicate in a way you will understand, and then guide you on the process of whatever action He wants you to accomplish. Oh, and the result? Well, that is on Him too.
"Not if it fails!"
Actually, yes, even if it fails. For success and failure come from Him.
Isaiah 45:7
[7] I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things.
The reason we struggle with those questions is because we struggle with control. We want to feel responsible. We want to feel in power. We want to feel like God.
Letting that go changes everything. Especially our focus. It goes from us... to Him.
Isn't that what He wants?
Matthew 22:37
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
Proverbs 3:6
6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Colossians 3:2
2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Yes, yes, it is
Once our focus is on Him, then everything changes. The world seems smaller. Problems seem controlled. Heartache becomes a path to better. Life now has a purpose, and we are no longer terrified of it.
God IS in control of your life, even if you don't acknowledge it. How much better is it, when you can let go of your "responsibility" of it?
"What are you saying!? Should we just go through life willy nilly?"
No, what I am saying, is that when you were a toddler walking around with your dad, he was in charge, he was responsible... for you. You knew this. It made you feel safe. It made you feel good. The only one you had to be concerned about making smile, was him. Nothing else mattered. Even your curiosity for the dangerous was covered... "Don't touch that!"
Your Father had you... and you knew it.
When you acknowledge that God is your Father, that He is always present, that He is absolutely in power, then life is a walk with your Dad. Until He says, "do this" or "do that", you just plod along following Him wherever He goes.
This is really a nice way to live.
Now, the only challenge you really have, is to stop competing with your younger brother who is also doing the same...
