They Got it Wrong

Isreal was a nation hand-picked by God. Well, more of a nation created by a guy who was hand-picked by God.

As we can see on how things had transpired with these folks over the millennia as written in Scripture, much of what they believed would happen and why...was very wrong.

Children thinking they are driving.

If you gave the keys of your car to a four-year-old, the end result would be obvious to any adult, but to the child, well, they would see themselves as a professional race car driver...especially if they were a wee little boy.

It is not going to end up like he thinks. He is not planning on crashing the car, but he has no real knowledge, experience or ability to correctly navigate that machine.

This is what we face as we enter life.

We don't know.

We don't, because we are not God.

We are just morons.

Still, even in scripture as it was originally being written down by people who had no idea it was going to become Scripture, their ideas of how it would go compared to the reality of how it would go are quite different.

This is really shown by how badly they followed God.

Their tendency was to feel like they were in control, like a 4-year-old with keys to a deadly machine. They were not.

How many, by the time of Jesus, had no clue who He was going to be, and how He was going to act?

All of them.

From the beginning, most of them got it wrong.

"God picked us because we are special!"

"God has a plan that is going to make us the dominant force on the planet!"

"We are going to rule the world!"

"The messiah will become King, and we will rule with Him!"

No, you are going to bring forth a man who would become savior of all. YOU had nothing to do with it. He did it all.

Oh, God uses us and it is an honor, but He does so not because of us at all. We have no room to boast.

Circumcision was given to Isreal to show a separation, a difference between them and all others. They took it as badge of "better".

Chosen doesn't mean better.

It means chosen.

God made ALL the apples. He is not picking the best. Most of the time, He picks some downright bad ones just to show how good His pie can be with anything He throws in it.

It's about Him and what He wants to do...and THAT is the mystery that is rarely revealed up front.

The mystery about Jesus was hidden, as Paul writes. It was only revealed by God's Spirit to those He picked to know it. Paul and others preached and wrote about it, but even still, only those who God chose could and still can see it at all.

So, realizing how off the nation of Isreal was by the time of Jesus regarding how they figured it would go, how off do you think the majority of "christians" are right now?

Hummm, kind of makes you wonder, doesn't it?

"Is that a ditch coming up?!"

This is so true. It reminded me of a time when I was much younger, someone I was close to told me that their mother (who was very spiritual) told them that they were chosen (based on the Scripture about many being called but few are chosen). The context it was said in was wrong and prideful, but not understanding the verse at the time, it cut me to the core. It immediately caused me to compare my life to that person’s life, and I found myself sorely lacking. Being brought up extremely legalisticly, I have been severely traumatized by the toxicity of the fruit that was subsequently produced. I still bear the scars today, although they don’t have the…
